A fascinating glimpse into the past was unearthed recently during a home renovation. A carpenter discovered a hidden message inscribed on a wooden beam, dated September 29, 1975. Following an arrow on the beam, a small bottle was found, containing a handwritten note. The note, penned by 14-year-old Stephanie Herron, serves as a personal time capsule. In it, Stephanie shares details about her family, including her parents, sisters Becky and Valerie, and her pregnant mother. She mentions Gerald Ford as the current president and notes that the house, built in 1872, was undergoing remodeling. The note also provides local context, stating the Illinois Central Railroad is on the west side of the house and her father works for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. Stephanie, who had lived in the house for eight years, also shared her age and her sisters' ages. A postscript reveals her mother, Rose Herron, was a registered nurse at Hopedale Nursing Home, born in Nebraska. The discovery offers a unique window into a family's life nearly five decades ago.
