Ghana Data Prices Surge: AirtelTigo, Telecel, and MTN Hike Rates
Ghanaian Mobile Data Prices to Increase: AirtelTigo, Telecel, and MTN Announce Price Hikes Ghana is set to see a significant increase in mobile data prices, effective July 1st, 2025. The announcement was made by the Minister of Communications, Samuel Nartey George, who cited the need for fairness, sustainability, and improved service delivery within the telecom sector. The National Communications Authority (NCA) will monitor compliance. The price increases will impact all existing data bundles across three major networks: AirtelTigo: A 10% increase across the board. Their GH₵400 bundle will be upgraded from 195GB to 236GB. Telecel: Also a 10% increase across the board. The GH₵400 bundle will increase from 90GB to 250GB. MTN: A 15% increase is planned. Importantly, MTN will reinstate their GH₵399 bundle, offering 214GB of data, reversing a previous reduction to 92.88GB at GH₵350. "These changes aim to ensure fairness, sustainability, and improved service delivery in the telecom sector," stated Minister George in a press conference. The NCA will closely monitor the implementation of these directives to ensure strict compliance. While the price increases may be unwelcome news for many Ghanaians, the restoration of the larger MTN bundle offers a degree of positive counterpoint. The NCA's oversight should also provide some reassurance to consumers.
