Durleshty Fire Leaves 15 Families Homeless

A fire in Durleshty, Moldova, on May 16, 2025, has left 15 families without homes. The fire, which started in the attic of a residential building, quickly spread, destroying 15 apartments. Veronika, the mother of one of the apartment owners, spoke about the tragedy: "My son, who lives abroad, worked hard to buy this apartment. We saved for years. We found out about the fire from our neighbors." A volunteer, Serghei Fusu, described the community's response: "We gathered several volunteers to help salvage what we could. The 8th and 9th floors were completely destroyed." The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but suspicions of a gas leak are being explored. The Chisinau mayor has promised 3 million lei to help the affected families.
