Malaysian Employer Arrested in Raid on Undocumented Workers
Malaysian Employer Arrested for Hiding 'Punch Cards' and Passports of Undocumented Workers Sungai Petani, Malaysia – In a recent raid at a wood processing mill in Sungai Petani, Kedah, Malaysian authorities arrested an employer for concealing time cards and passports of undocumented foreign workers. The operation, part of a larger crackdown on illegal immigration, also resulted in the detention of 29 undocumented migrants, a significant number of whom were from Myanmar and Indonesia. Two young children were among those apprehended. "The employer was attempting to evade detection of these illegal workers," stated Mohamad Ridwan Mohamad Zin, the director of the Kedah Immigration Department. "This is a clear violation of immigration laws and will not be tolerated." The arrested employer now faces charges under Section 56(1)(d), Section 55E, and Section 55B of the Immigration Act. The undocumented workers face deportation. The presence of the young children highlights the human cost of illegal immigration and the need for stronger enforcement of labor laws. The raid serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by Malaysia in combating illegal immigration and ensuring fair labor practices.
