MEXICO CITY – A local woman has publicly shared her distressing experience with international shipping giant DHL Express, alleging the company demanded an additional 10,000 Mexican pesos (approximately 550 USD) to release a birthday gift sent from Spain. The package, intended for her boyfriend's birthday on August 18th, reportedly arrived in Mexico on August 15th but was held up for weeks due to an "incorrect invoice." The woman, who identified herself as Alana Flores, stated in a recent video, "I just had the worst experience of my life with DHL Express Worldwide International." She explained that she had already paid 300 euros for the initial shipping from Spain. "I've been calling every day since then to resolve the issue because the invoice was incorrect," she claimed, detailing a prolonged period of unresponsiveness. According to Flores, after nearly two weeks of persistent efforts, DHL finally released the package today but required an additional payment. "They just asked me for a payment of 10,000 pesos," she stated, breaking down the charges as 2,500 pesos for taxes and a staggering 7,000 pesos for "customs agents and I don't know what other services." Flores expressed profound frustration, questioning the fairness of the charges. "It's not right. How can they charge almost 17,000 pesos for one shipment?" she asked, referring to the combined initial shipping cost and the new charges. She emphasized that despite her anger, she paid the amount to ensure her boyfriend received his gifts. This incident highlights potential challenges and unexpected costs consumers may face with international parcel deliveries.
