MMDA Reinforces No-Contact Apprehension Policy in Metro Manila
MMDA's No Contact Apprehension Policy Returns to Metro Manila Metro Manila, Philippines – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reinstated its No Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP) on Monday, May 26, 2025, utilizing CCTV cameras and artificial intelligence to detect traffic violations. This policy, initially suspended, aims to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in the National Capital Region (NCR). The MMDA's decision has been met with mixed reactions from motorists. Sonny Abo, a taxi driver interviewed in the GMA News report, stated, "It's okay, but not always applicable, especially for us taxi drivers because of shift changes." Another motorist, Charlse Ocub, a motorcycle rider, commented on the implementation, "The policy itself is good, but the implementation seems lacking. They should fix the signage and road conditions before implementing it on major roads." The MMDA clarified that NCAP will initially focus on circumferential roads due to better CCTV coverage. They also plan to redeploy traffic enforcers to areas lacking sufficient camera monitoring. The authority emphasizes that they will consider the context of each violation before issuing notices. The MMDA's commitment to improving traffic management in Metro Manila through technological advancements and improved enforcement strategies is a step towards a more efficient and safer road system.
