Over 500 Apprehended as Metro Manila Reinstates No-Contact Apprehension Policy
Metro Manila sees over 500 traffic violations on first day of reinstated No-Contact Apprehension Policy. The MMDA's decision to reinstate the No-Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP) in Metro Manila has resulted in a significant number of traffic violations on its first day. Over 500 motorists were apprehended for various traffic offenses. This measure, along with the reintroduction of the odd-even number coding scheme, is intended to alleviate traffic congestion anticipated during the upcoming EDSA rehabilitation project, scheduled to begin in June. "This policy, along with the return of the odd-even scheme, aims to ease expected heavy traffic during EDSA repairs starting in June." said an MMDA representative. The NCAP utilizes a network of CCTV cameras equipped with artificial intelligence to identify violations without the need for physical traffic enforcers. The odd-even scheme will restrict vehicles with certain plate numbers from using EDSA on specific days. Exemptions will be granted for hybrid and electric vehicles, as well as TNVS. The MMDA aims to use this period to discipline motorists and improve traffic flow in the long term. The successful implementation of NCAP and the odd-even scheme could serve as a model for other cities facing similar traffic challenges.
