
Retired Accountant Loses RM317,000 in Facebook Investment Scam
Seri Alam, Johor, Malaysia - A 71-year-old retired accountant recently lost RM317,000 to an investment scam. The scam, advertised on Facebook, operated between March 23 and May 8, 2025. The victim made 22 transactions to 7 different bank accounts. According to Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Suhaimi Ishak, Chief of Police for Seri Alam District, "The victim was attracted by investment offers promising returns of 10% to 20%, depending on the investment amount." Police investigations have uncovered 70 related reports, with six of seven suspect accounts identified. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. Authorities are reminding the public to be vigilant against investment scams and to verify offers before investing.
