Record Number of Tourists Denied Entry at KLIA Airport
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – June 3, 2025 – In an unprecedented event, the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) turned away a record-breaking 279 foreign nationals on June 2nd, 2025. The majority of those denied entry were from Bangladesh (86%), followed by Pakistan (12%) and India (2%). Immigration officials cited failure to meet entry requirements as the reason for the denials. "This is the highest number of individuals we've had to send back in a single day since the KLIA monitoring team's inception in 2023," stated an official from the Immigration Department. The increase in denials, according to immigration officials, is partly due to an increase in attempts to enter the country illegally during peak tourist seasons. The incident highlights the ongoing efforts of Malaysian authorities to maintain strict border control and ensure only those who meet the necessary requirements are allowed entry. The video footage shows a large group of individuals waiting at the airport, underscoring the scale of the event. While the situation presented challenges, the efficient processing of these cases demonstrates the effectiveness of the KLIA monitoring team and the commitment to upholding immigration regulations.
