In a recent discussion, health expert Marcos Vázquez highlighted the significant health benefits of daily walking, emphasizing its role in longevity and overall well-being. Vázquez explained that studies indicate a substantial reduction in mortality for individuals walking between 6,000 and 10,000 steps per day, noting that the benefits tend to plateau beyond this range. According to Vázquez, walking is a simple yet effective way to support cardiovascular health. He further elaborated on the crucial role of movement in activating the lymphatic system, which is responsible for eliminating toxins from the body. "The lymphatic system," Vázquez stated, "only functions when you move." Without sufficient movement, he warned, toxins accumulate, leading to poorer health outcomes. Beyond physical benefits, Vázquez underscored the positive impact of walking on cognitive function and mood. He explained that walking oxygenates the brain, fostering creativity and improving one's state of mind within minutes. Moreover, it stimulates the production of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF), described as a "neuronal fertilizer" that enhances brain function and memory. "It's normal to have better ideas, to be more creative, and to improve your mood," he added. Vázquez concluded by asserting that humans are fundamentally "designed to move," and walking remains the most basic and essential form of this movement, benefiting us in every sense.
