MMDA: Number Coding Stays, Odd-Even Scheme Starts June 16 on EDSA
Metro Manila MMDA Announces Number Coding to Continue Alongside EDSA Odd-Even Scheme Trial Metro Manila residents can expect a modified traffic scheme starting June 16th. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has announced that the current number coding system will remain in place while a one-month trial run of an odd-even scheme is implemented on EDSA. This decision is intended to mitigate potential traffic congestion during the testing phase of the new odd-even system. "The current number coding will not be suspended during the odd-even scheme trial on EDSA," clarified an MMDA spokesperson in a recent news report. "This is to ensure smoother traffic flow across the city, not just on EDSA." The odd-even scheme will restrict vehicles with license plates ending in odd numbers on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and even numbers on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The MMDA spokesperson emphasized that this is a trial and adjustments may be made based on observations. Electric and hybrid vehicles, along with public transport, are exempt from both schemes. The MMDA is committed to monitoring traffic patterns closely and making changes as necessary to improve the overall transportation experience in Metro Manila.
