Woman Alleges False Accusation and Police Misconduct at Indiana Walmart

Merrillville, Indiana – A recent incident at a local Walmart in Merrillville, Indiana, has sparked controversy after a woman, identified as the video's author, alleged she was falsely accused of shoplifting and subsequently subjected to violent handling by a Hobart Police Department officer. The incident, which reportedly occurred on September 15, 2025, during her child's second birthday, has led to calls for public awareness and legal action.According to the woman's account, a cashier at the Merrillville Walmart mistakenly removed her daughter's shoes from her total after they scanned twice. Upon exiting the store, she was stopped by a white man in plain clothes, identified as Corey, who claimed she had not scanned an item. The woman stated her total was $252 and presented her receipt as proof of purchase. She refused to enter a private room, citing safety concerns as a Black woman with her child present, and offered to resolve the matter in the open. The situation escalated with the arrival of Hobart Police Officer A. Meier, badge #144. The woman claims Officer Meier "stormed in aggressive, nearly ripped my arm out of its socket, and dragged me out of the store." During this alleged altercation, her child was reportedly left unattended in a stroller inside Walmart. The woman stated she "begged the officer not to harm me in front of my child, but she still violated me in the worst way."The video, which captures parts of the confrontation, shows the woman holding a receipt and arguing with both the Walmart employee and Officer Meier, asserting that all her items were paid for. Officer Meier is heard threatening arrest for disorderly conduct. The woman repeatedly asks the officer not to approach her, emphasizing the presence of her child. The footage ends abruptly during a physical struggle. The author has announced that legal action is in progress and is seeking to raise awareness, stating, "This is not just about me — it’s about protecting Black families in a city where we spend our hard-earned dollars." She has called for accountability from Merrillville Walmart, the Hobart Police Department, Officer A. Meier, and the Merrillville Mayor.
