Ghanaian Telcos Boost Data Bundles: A Step Towards Better Connectivity
Ghanaian Telcos to Increase Data Bundles by 10-15% Starting July 1 Accra, Ghana – In a press conference held on June 10th, 2025, the Ghanaian Communications Minister, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, announced a significant development in the country's telecommunications sector. Starting July 1st, 2025, MTN, AirtelTigo, and Telecel will increase their data bundles by 10% to 15%. This decision comes after eight years of what the minister described as "mismanagement." "The recovery from eight years of mismanagement cannot be completed in four months," stated Hon. George. The increase, he explained, is a crucial step towards improving service quality and network infrastructure. The three telecommunication companies have pledged to collectively invest approximately $150 million in network upgrades between now and the end of the year. The minister expressed his pleasure with the CEOs' commitment. He highlighted specific examples of the changes, such as MTN's 400 Ghana cedi bundle increasing from 195GB to 214GB. The government will conduct a rigorous quality of service assessment in the final quarter of the year to ensure the telcos are fulfilling their promises. Those that fail to meet the standards will face sanctions. This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing the telecommunications landscape in Ghana and promises improved services for consumers.
